I have used both of these and I find paint.net good for casual stuff. However for more advanced stuff, I think GIMP is better. What is your choice when it comes to one of the these two programs?

Paint.net does not have much feaatures like gimp. but it can be compared only on the basis of the minimal set of features. I think paint.net is good for basic use.

Yes paint.net is used for basic features, and is more easy, but gimp is for those people who have more experience in this domain and they can do more things

GIMP does not have features like the photoshop though. I mean a lot of effects and the filters are not present with the gimp. So this is something that makes me wonder if it is any good.

I am still learning GIMP, so do not know why it is in discussion. Really think it must have amazing features.

GIMP is good when you want to compare the GIMP with the photoshop. because most likely the photoshop can do a lot of things that GIMP often have not done so far. so that is the point.
